Clutch Magazine is Keeping It Kinky (Thanks)
Hey everyone. This blog has been added to the Clutch Magazine Blog Rolodex under the Beauty category. Clutch is perhaps my favorite online magazine. It keeps me hip. lol. Seriously - I'm a working grad student. I don't have time to watch BET, MTV and E entertainment all day. Clutch is my one-stop shop for everything related to fashion, beauty and culture. You should visit it too. Much thanks to Clutch for supporting my blog by adding it to their rolodex.- Kinky Lady
I did it!

Hey Ladies. Remember that recent post including a video tutorial on the Rosa Parks hairstyle. I did it... and loved it! I hope you try it or have tried it too. Send in your pics of the style if you do. I may just post them.

Great Product Alert! Keratin 2 Minute Reconstructor

While visiting my mother, I used some of her mystery conditioner. I didn't even recognize that it was an Aphogee product because of the new bottle and logo. The results blew me away! My hair was soft, but strong. It really did correct the Ph balance in my hair and I have never felt my natural hair this soft before without any product added after washing. I bought some for myself the very next day. I couldn't risk not finding it at my regular beauty store. Now I have to admit - This stuff is pricey but to me the results I get are well worth the cost. I suggest trying the small packet before investing in a big bottle. One thing I can say for sure though - TRY IT! Right now I'm extremely curious about their other products. I haven't used them in about a decade and that was with relaxed hair. They apparently have a lot more products now.
Check out the product on their website by clicking here.

How-To: Detangle & Blow-Dry
I think this is a great video on how to detangle and blow-dry your hair. I do not know anything about the products recommended in this video. Use them at your own risk. The blowdryer and comb work very well though. I suggest that everyone who blow-drys their natural hair purchase a comb attachment. It makes life a lot easier.

My Transitioning Flat-Iron Picture
Hi everyone. I took this picture in about May 2007 when transitioning to natural. My last relaxer was November 1, 2007.I used the Maxiglide flat iron to straighten my roots for a special occasion. This style was a great option for self-styling. I still hadn't mastered doing many natural styles myself. I don't believe in wearing my hair straight everyday because that would damage my hair way too much but I consider it a great option. I just have to be careful about conditioning my hair afterwards and moisturizing with something like Cantu Shea Butter when it is straight to keep it healthy. Cantu is a great heat protectant. I use it now when I blow-dry. Just some info for you.

Happy Nails
I thought this was very interesting. What a lot of people don't know it that I'm a qualified nail technician. (I've got very lazy with my nails since Grad School however.) This tutorial I saw on Youtube is super-easy and inspiring me to get back into keeping my nails neat and polished.
Ponytail Baggy Tutorial
This is by far the best ponytail baggy method tutorial video I've seen.
The baggy method is a way of doing an extended hair treatment where the ends of the hair is left in conditioner (in a bag) for a long period of time. It's perfect for dry hair ends.
I'm sorry the music on her video was too loud. I added the video anyway because I understood it and thought it was great.
For those of you who can't hear... All she did was put olive oil and conditioner in the bag then tied it onto her ponytail. She then put a fake ponytail on top to cover it up making it nice enough to wear outside while and allowing the hair to be deep conditioned for a prolonged period of time. She then used gel to keep the front of her hair smooth. That is optional of course but she suggested it for keeping wet hair flat.

Beautiful Updo Tutorial
Hi Ladies. I found another great video on Youtube that I'm sure some of you will love. I think forgoing the headband will make the style a lot more chic but that is up to personal preference of course.

No Poo? How? Why?
A lot of people are opting to forgo using shampoo. Yes, you got it. No shampoo aka "No Poo".
Some people do this because of concern for the environment while others do it because they believe conditioner washing is the way to go for more moisture.
Check out these two articles to learn more.

Article Alert - Wig Regimen
The Wig Regimen for Longer and Stronger HairMany say it’s impossible. Some say you have to be biracial or a mixed chick in order to do it. Nevertheless, many women of African decent have dreams of growing their natural hair to great lengths.
I admit - I too have the desire to see my hair grow as long as possible. I’m more concerned with healthy hair but long and healthy is not a bad deal either. After my Big Chop, my quest for long healthy hair led me to the “Wig Regimen”....

It's Still Summer Makeup

When I look in the stores I have to remind myself that it's still summer as the windows slowly become filled winter-themed sweater dresses. I love summer and it's not over yet. I love the colors of warm months that make me feel light and airy. I'm holding on to the spring look for as long as I can with the styles of my hair, clothes and makeup. This entry is just to showcase a natural who has inspired me to keep embracing that fresh look for as long as I can. Hey. It isn't winter yet! Enjoy the warmth.

Brow shading Tutorial
A Stronger Brow

A More Natural Brow

This is my first trial in a long time at shaping my brows so I don't think I've done too badly. I usually get "that look". You know the look. That awful look where the brow simple looks fake and drawn on. (ugh)
I found a brow tutorial online that worked VERY well for me. Hope you check it out. Maybe you can use it for your night out this weekend or it may just make it into your everyday routine.

Refine Your Look with Brow Shaping.
I am VERY lazy when it comes to doing my brows even though I have about 3 tweezers and one eyebrow razor. A part of my problem is that I don't really have a proper technique for shaping and every time I do them they look different.
I think brows really help to refine your overall look. I'll be posting the results of my attempt soon. Hopefully they won't be discouraging. (laughing)

I'm trying to figure out to do her hairstyle with braids already but I hope her makeup tutorial encourages you to try something new.

Hot Style - Cornrows Design
It's pretty simple but stylish. The four angles should give you a clear idea of the style. PLease remember that your style doesn't have to match exactly but it might give you a great example. These cornrows end to the side, giving a side ponytail. Use a different clip for a more dressed-up look. A nice colored shoelace can give a funky youthful look.

Braids Stylings Photo Series (1)
Hi readers. I'm determined to show a wide variety of styles that can be achieved with braids. Most will be simple and hopefully some a bit more complex.A part of the reason for my doing this is that I intend to wear braids for the majority of the rest of the year. I will be taking breaks in between to rest my hair however and will do other styles then. Don't be discouraged however - many other styles for loose-haired naturals and locked ladies will still be posted in between.
This is the first in the Braids Stylings Photo Series of hairstyles. It is a simple braided ponytail. Can't get much easier than this right?
I am aiming for at least 15 styles.

Easy Breezy Beautiful Natural Girl.
Your hair is full of conditioner. Your friend (that you happen to be secretly in love with) calls you out to the restaurant you’ve wanted to visit for months. Hair Candy Alert.
It's just so sweet. I wouldn't recommend eating this one but I consider Hair Accessories as Candy because they can so easily turn a hairstyle from OK to sweet or darling. I got this piece of candy from either Clarie's or Icing in the mall. In the pic I have my hair in one but just fastening this clip right about my hair band transformed my style from OK to sweet and cute in under ten seconds. It's great for all those natural ladies who want that whimsical, feminine feel.- Keep It Kinky Ladies!
Hot Style : Braid-out Updo

Before you attempt this style, please click on the image for a larger, clearer view of the style.
Well this one was pretty easy.
Tools - Hair band and good accessory featured in the picture.
How To
1. Secure the top half of hair with a hair band.
2.Pull the hair at the back to the left.
3. Hold down the ponytail from the top.
4. Wrap the hair from the bottom half around it
like a french roll.
5. Now secure the roll
with the accessory shown in the picture with the teeth going toward the left. Make sure that the teeth is picking up hair in the roll to be combed in.
6. Tuck away any flyaways with a hairpin.
(optional)
7. Add a headband or scarf to the front.
It may take a few tries for those not accustomed to doing french rolls with this hair comb but it's well worth the results.

Hot Style : Braid-out and tam

Traditionally in Jamaica, we'd call this thing on the back of my head a tam. I don't really know the proper name but it's a Crotched headpiece. All I did was release the plaits in my hair and tuck most of it into this tam. Simple, easy and great for weekend hair. Tip - bold earrings can give this an even edgier look.

Hot Style : Box-Braids Puff?

(Click on the image for a larger view)
Shampoo: Suave Daily Clarifying
Conditioner: Tresemme's Moisture Rich
Moisturizer: Shealoe [ a mixture of shea butter and alove vera ]
I'm unable to do a high puff, so I decided to pin my hair to mimic the puff. I washed and conditioned my hair, towel dried a bit and added shealoe. While my hair was damp I made about 10 large braids and pinned down to prevent unraveling. Once the braids dried, I took them out for a wavy affect. I pinned my braids going straight up versus towards the back.
These braids are 17 days old. My aim is to keep this set for 4 weeks. I must admit that this goal is challenging for me because the longest I've kept in braids is 2 weeks and I'm just itching to put in a new set. I revived this set by refreshing the first 3 rows of braids. This particular set is frizzier than normal because I've deep conditioned them about 3 times and rinsed/washed and conditioned about 5 times.

Hot Style - a 10 minute style
This style basically incorporates two flat twists on the side and the middle undone at the front and clipping everything into a bun in the back. It's super-easy and very quick for a nice twist on the ordinary bun. You could also do a puff in the back.
