Braids Challenge Continued 18/15

If you remember my braids challenge to do 15 new styles by December this makes sense. I am now at style 18!

What I needed:
Towel
Boiling hot water
Kettle to boil water.
A perm rod.
A hair band/ elastic.

I got this style idea from this picture in a Fotki album. My version -

1. I pulled out 9 braids and plaited them together.
2. I secured the rest of my hair in a ponytail.
3. I braided the bang and tucked it under then secured is with a black band.
4. I then braided the bang.
5. I put the braid bang on a purple perm rod. (After thinking I realized that the perm rod would have been enough in the end.)
6. Anyway, I then dipped the rod in boiling hot water. I did this by filling a mug to the brim. I then leaned over and dipped the rodded plait in the cup of boiling hot water three times then caught the water dripping from the rod with a towel.
7. I let the hair dry.
8. I then removed the rod and unraveled the plait.
9. I notices that I had a little too much hair out for the bang so I separated it in too and secured some of the curls to the ponytail.

Satin Pillowcases for Hair Growth?

If you're like me, almost anything you put on your hair to protect it at night ISN'T on your hair head when you wake up. Satin pillowcases are great for your hair! Cotton pillowcase tend to suck up your moisture. Try satin pillowcases to maintain the moisture in your hair. I also use a hair net on my hair. it tends to stay but I add the satin pillowcase in case the hairnet comes off anyway. Satin pillowcases won't help your hair grow, but they will protect the strands you've already grown.

Hot Style

She calls herself Pretty Dimples. She does all her styles herself. Talk about talented right? Here she mixed flat twists/rolls with roller set hair and a bump in the front. This fotki Lady really knows how to style her hair. Stay tuned to the BLOG to see more beautiful styles that she has done.

Twists on Short Hair

If you have short hair - you have options. There are many cute styles that can be done with short hair that you won't be able to do when your hair is long. You might miss a style you could have tried but were so caught in the sadness of short hair that you miss it's beauty. The lady i this video is working the hair she has. Now you go and work it... whatever your length may be.

How should you Towel-Dry your hair ?

I'm gonna make this quick as always. You can use a towel on your hair. Don't get too paranoid about losing your lovely strands to damage. Simply avoid rubbing the hair. I let me hair drip, squeeze it like a wet rag, then wrap my hair firmly (in the towel) for about 20-30 minutes. I then squeeze any excess water in sections (using the towel) and add my leave-in moisture treatment of choice. Enjoy caring your hair and continue to...

Alternative Braided Ponytail

I was getting a bit bored with the regular ponytail so I decided to try a slanted side part. A part is all it takes to make a difference.

How to Wash You Locks
By: Amy McNight

How you wash your locks (dreadlocks) and how often will really depend on how you started them. But here are some basic guidelines that will work for all lock types...

More Fall Nail Polish

I combined two polishes here. I put the dark one on first then the pink on after. Nice blend huh? This is also a great tip for when your dark polish is starting to fade at the tips or chip and you don't have time to redo. Just put a glossy shade over it for a few extra days of wear.

Hot Cheetah Style

She calls herself African Cheetah on Fotki. I saw this pick in her album and just had to ask her for permission to bring this style to Kinky Land. She flat-twisted her hair up and left the top out. I thought is was chic and stylish. I've never seen this style before with the puff on top. It's new. It's fresh and frankly, it's worth a try.

Check out more of her styles here.

Denman Brush Review

I got and used my new Denman brush a few weeks ago before getting my hair braided. I bought the D41 (I already had a D3) because the website said it was for "thick or afro hair". It is.

Now, the D41 doesn't fully detangle but it definitely made detangling in the shower faster. I thought it was more like the first step before using the finer D3 brush. The D3 slided through easily and I got really nice, thorough detangling results with minimal breakage. I liked it a lot and will probably not be using my wide-tooth comb as much. I think the D3 is really what does the main job of detangling so if you are on a budget, only get the D3 but the D3 and D41 are definitely a good combination.

Locking Myths and Facts
by: Amy McNight

Despite the progress that has been made in the acceptance of natural hair styles and choices, locks (dreadlocks) still remains a misunderstood option. People will say all sorts of things about locks. And people will tell you to do all sorts of things to start and maintain them.

Here is the real deal.

Product Review - Lattabody Setting Lotion

I used this product a lot when I had permed hair. Little did I know it's great on natural hair too. This lotion needs to be diluted but works out well because it lasts a really long time. I recommend using this product along with a moisturizer for all your twist and braid-outs. It produces the best results when applied to wet, clear hair before braiding or twisting to prepare for a braid or twist-out. This also works on regular roller-setting of natural hair. It won't look like straight hair but you will get curls. I prefer it for twist-outs and braid-outs.

Natural Bride - Nappynae

I'm not engaged... but if I were I'd be thinking about what to do with my hair. I've seen this question popping up all over the internet. Braids Style Challenge 13/15

Well here is style 13 of the braids styling challenge. I think I'll easily do 15 styles by December - don't you? Once again I'm using plaits.

I started in the same way as the last style with two plaits at the front secured by a black band at the back. I then plaited the back of the hair and put a band towards the end.

Try it if you like it and...

Braids Style Challenge (Hairnet Chic)

People looked at me like I was crazy. *lol* I'm not. I've been wearing this hairnet to bed actually. I think it looks cute! It's really just like the knitted tams people wear in the winter.

I got tired of the stares though so I might not wear it again. Was fun for a while though. What do you guys think? By the way - that was style 11 out of 15 in the style challenge.

One Good Reason to Buy a Denman Brush

Braids Style

I loved this style. I think you can see exactly what I did in the picture. I just pulled hair from either side of my hair above my ears, plaited them then secured them together with a ponytail holder.

The main reason I did this was to get the hair off my face. I was getting annoying. The result - a beautiful style!

Braids Style Challenge 9/15

I'm back on my challenge to do 15 styles with braids or braids extensions by December 08.This is style number 9. Of course, it's very simple.

I did a side part , cornrowed one side, then put everything up in a side ponytail. Took so little time which is just how I like it. It went a lot faster than I anticipates so I put a scarf around the elastic I used to secure my hair.
