I got and used my new Denman brush a few weeks ago before getting my hair braided. I bought the D41 (I already had a D3) because the website said it was for "thick or afro hair". It is.Now, the D41 doesn't
fully detangle but it definitely made detangling in the shower faster. I thought it was more like the first step before using the finer D3 brush. The D3 slided through easily and I got really nice, thorough detangling results with minimal breakage. I liked it a lot and will probably not be using my wide-tooth comb as much. I think the D3 is really what does the main job of detangling so if you are on a budget, only get the D3 but the D3 and D41 are definitely a good combination.
