This dress was ALL over the place last year. I spotted it in many fashion mags, Kristen Davis rocked it, Uma Thurman wore it on a magazine cover.
It is still being sold at Neiman Marcus in a beautiful black tweed version. For $1,795.
I couldn't believe that Mr. Kors released the pattern of such a popular dress. So fabulous.
Now, I knew it was labelled "Average", and I'm a beginner, but I thought "It's a dress? How hard can it be?" But when I opened the pattern instructions, I began whimpering with fear. It has 14 pattern pieces (piece #4 is particularly chilling), pleats (and mini darts) in the bodice, and 2 sections of triple pleats in the skirt. And that's just the front.
The last time I was in New York, I bought two beautiful cuts of fabric for two versions of this dress, and have already pictured myself sashaying around in them. I must make this dress. But I can't even work up the courage to cut the pattern pieces.
Does anyone else have plans to make this dress? Are you equally terrified? I've been trolling Pattern Review, wishing that some brave soul will attempt it and give me hope!

I'm almost done with Butterick 5316. Planning to insert an invisible zipper and blindstitch the hem in front of Project Runway. DH is at a pre-season NFL game, so it's been an evening of the sewing machine and Indian takeout for me. Heaven!
